We are a Singapore-based subsidiary of TOPPAN Holdings Inc., a Japanese pioneer in printing technologies and a leading supplier of high-quality Flip Chip Ball Grid Array (FC-BGA) substrates. We are the first factory in Singapore to pioneer the manufacturing of high-end FC-BGA substrates used in cutting-edge semiconductor products such as network switches and artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) devices.

Additionally, our facility will conduct research and development (R&D) aimed at advancing substrate technologies to meet the evolving performance requirements of future products in these domains. Broadcom Inc., a global technology leader specializing in semiconductor design, enterprise software, and security solutions, is also actively supporting the establishment of this state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Singapore.

Company Overview

Our AST R&D team is on a mission to transform AI and develop groundbreaking hardware. We’re creating innovative solutions for tighter, quicker, and more dependable integration of processing and memory, moving beyond the limitations of current substrate technologies. We leverage cutting-edge semiconductor processing technologies, including Chemical Mechanical Planarization, to produce high-performance substrates with 10x increase in interconnect density, paving the way for packages with up to a trillion transistors.

 

Summary

A Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring product reliability, optimizing performance, and preventing future failures. This position requires a combination of technical knowledge, analytical skills, and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify, document and resolve failures in an engineering system.

  • This role shall report directly to the factory quality manager.
  • Manage quality specialists performing failure analysis and activities in the evaluation laboratory.
  • Perform electrical and physical failure analysis (FA) on semiconductor substrates using a range of analytical tools to identify defect mechanisms and support root-cause investigations.
  • Conduct sample preparation and execute FA workflows, translating findings into actionable insights for engineering teams.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate FA laboratory equipment, while supporting the development and optimization of analytical techniques and test recipes.
  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques, such as FE-SEM, Ultrasonic imaging system FineSAT,
  • Lock-in IR Thermography (ELITE) system and X-ray, to analyse failures and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Design, Engineering, Manufacturing and Inspection) and document results through technical reports and presentations.

 

Job Requirements

Customer Support:

  • In the event of receiving a complaint or returns due to a quality defect at a customer, investigate the causes, implement measures, and contribute to an 8D reports to be submitted to the customer.
  • Aggregate process control data according to a customer request and prepare its report.
  • Additionally, compile a report on what is requested by a customer.


Process Improvement:

  • Analyze defective products generated in the process and implement appropriate measures according to the causes of the defect to reduce the amount of loss to be caused by the defect. Monitor process capability (Cpk, Ppk), investigate the causes for low process capability and implement measures to prevent deviation from the control standard.


Professional Qualifications:

  • Holding a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, manufacturing technology or associated fields
  • It is favorable (promising) if having experiences of similar roles in a failure analysis environment at a semiconductor related manufacturer.
  • Having experiences of working as a failure analysis engineer at a manufacturing plant is favorable.


Expertise and skills:

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for document creation.
  • A basic knowledge of quality management systems (IATF, ISO, etc.)
  • A basic knowledge of environmental, health and safety (EHS) management systems
  • A basic knowledge with chemical regulations (laws, SDS, GHS).
  • A basic understanding of business continuity plans (BCP)
  • A good understanding of statistical analysis methods using Minitab software.


Competency:

  • Able to listen effectively and to act appropriately in response to instructions given.
  • Able to report necessary information, such as problems and production progress, to managers.
  • Capable of making recommendations for improvement plan to reporting manager.
  • Capable of formulating a hypothesis about the factor based on the defects or defective event and making a proposal for improvement.
  • Able to grasp customer’s need precisely and deploy and coordinate with relevant departments to fulfill them.


Attributes:

  • Higher interpersonal ability and communication skills are essential for working with multiple divisions and departments.
  • A cooperative personality and good attitude are preferred.


Others:

  • Normally, work the day shift on weekdays, but may be required to work on holidays as directed by your supervisor.
  • May be required to work in a clean room environment.
